People often wish to know if therapy is right for them, and if so, what kind of treatment would serve them best. Consultation with a psychoanalyst can help people who are wishing to answer these questions for themselves, and are looking for an experienced opinion from an expert who has worked with many other people and has seen what helps and what doesn’t help. The process involves meeting between one to three times to discuss your presenting concerns, and various questions, some specific ideas of what kinds of treatment would serve you best. If indicated, referrals for psychopharmacology, psychological assessment or other forms of treatment are provided at the conclusion of the consultation.
